.- Talked with the people and they are happy with the Doctors visit.

 Now every week the Doctor's team will be visiting to this pada for medical check-ups with Mobile Medical unit.

A Visit Katkari pada, at Paud, Tal. Mulashi

- 30 kms from Pune, over 16 families including 45+kids are living.
- Battling wtih hunger, poverty and malnutrition 
- 50+ such padas/bastis are situated near by area.

Mr. Nitin Ghodke and his team is working in this padas and working on malnutrition, education of kids.
Currently one community hall construction is going on with the help of CSR activity of IT Company.

Now they are working on providing nutrition supplements/foods and educational activities for the kids.

In spite of the great poverty, playing a game clearly is a joyous event for the children. I will never forget the smile on girl child. This little kid's smile made my day, I was wondering how they are enjoying game, helping their younger brother , and I was seeing only her eyes and small face with true  emotions!

Materials : Wooden  batten (lipping pattil), Pencils, Beads

Slipper can also be used instead of wooden batten

Using Slipper/Wooden batten :

• A simple abacus can be made from a used rubber slipper/wooden batten. 

• Make three equidistant circular holes in a slipper with a shoemaker’s punch, Or drill in wooden batten. They should be just big enough so that a pencil can fit tightly in them. 

• Stand three pencils in the slipper. Cut the pencils so that only nine beads can be fitted in one pencil. 

• The pencils represent place value – the right one “units” the middle one “tens” and the left one “hundreds”.

Arvind Gupta - Toys from Trash

Arvind Gupta is an Indian toy inventor and popularizer of science.

Gandhian in outlook, Arvind Gupta developed idea of creating simple toys and educational experiments using locally available materials as well as items usually thrown as trash. 

These simple toys, he found, fascinated children and Gupta went on to make these as the hallmark of his movement of popularizing science. 

His first book, "Matchstick Models and other Science Experiments" was reprinted in 12 languages. 

His  website holds instructions, including short video clips on YouTube, in a number of languages, for making hundreds of improvised toys, which he makes available freely without copyright restrictions.

He inspired from a number of people, including Gautama Buddha, George Washington Carver and his mother.

It was really great fun. The children enjoyed a lot.
You can see gleam in the children eyes while doing activities.

Mitti Ke Rang - at 'Gharate - NGO for street children - Hadapsar'

It is certainly well said that “The best and most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or even touched. They must be felt with the heart.” And the same ecstasy was felt when we visited the “Gharte - NGO for street children -Hadapsar”.

We were touched by the extremely cheerful, generous and kind nature of the children.

- We played games with them.

- Taught CAPTAIN HAT's story and helped to make it. This I learn from Mr. Arvind Gupta's video on you tube.
This famous CAPTAIN'S HAT STORY is told while folding a newspaper. Fold a double newspaper and make several caps -- Umbrella cap, Fireman's cap, Shikari cap and a Policeman's cap. In the end you make a Ship. Unfortunately, the ship gets caught in a fierce storm. Huge waves hit the ship and knock it down. Finally the ship breaks into pieces and sinks. And all that Captain is left with is a LIFE JACKET.

- We attained their evening prayer’ It was really pleasant to hear ‘Shubham karoti’ ( शुभंकरोती), Gayatri mantrs,(गायत्री मंत्र), Om Mantra.

- Then we distributed chocolates to them.

The children were really lovely and it was so hard to leave their beautiful smiling faces. 

One of our friend (Sagar) has a very heart touching experience when a girl called Anita came to him and asked him ‘Will you come to meet me daily ‘ (दादा, तुम्ही रोज येणार का मला भेटायला?’), he replied ‘Yes’ (‘हो’), then she asked ‘Promise me’ by putting her palm head. He was speechless !

So to bring smile on children face as you have to just spent time with them, play with them; they really make you feel special.
